First-time director Felipe Solari Yrigoyen is set to present his upcoming crime comedy, 'The Amateurs,' at the Venice Gap-Financing Market. The film's premise centers on a quirky film convention in Patagonia, attended by characters like the Joker and Marilyn Monroe. A central plot point involves the theft of an original Maltese Falcon statuette and the disappearance of a mysterious Russian guest.

An unlikely group of amateurs is thrust into action to unravel the mystery behind the heist. Solari Yrigoyen's inspiration stemmed from a desire to write a crime comedy, evolving into a story set within the unique and cinematic universe of a fictional South American film convention. He notes that all character costumes will adhere to copyright for clarity.

'The Amateurs' is produced by Quijote Films, with Solari Yrigoyen penning the script himself. The project is currently seeking financing in European markets. Producer Giancarlo Nasi is considering shooting the film in Chile, with partial funding already secured from Chilean and Argentinian film funds. The director acknowledges the difficult climate for Argentinian cinema due to recent governmental defunding of film institutions.

Solari Yrigoyen, who has extensive experience as an assistant director, feels ready to lead his own ambitious project. He draws inspiration from his work with acclaimed South American filmmakers, citing a decade of learning and creative collaboration. The move to directing is a long-held ambition, now realized at a time when expanding international co-production is crucial for Argentinian filmmakers.
