As the executive producer and co-writer of the finale for Hulu's "The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox," Knox took the opportunity to confront her former prosecutor, Giuliano Mignini, in a deeply personal encounter.

The meeting, which took place 15 years after Knox's initial arrest, saw Mignini acknowledge her innocence in a subtle but significant way. While he did not outright admit his error, the prosecutor's actions provided a form of "absolution" that Knox had never received, despite being acquitted of the crime in 2015.

For Knox, the chance to engage with Mignini on her own terms was a pivotal moment in her journey to reclaim her narrative. As she explained, "it didn't really feel like my story to tell until I made that choice to go back to Italy, until I started making decisions that only I could make, and that were informed by my personal experience of this journey that I had been on."

The finale's focus on Knox's relationship with Mignini was a deliberate choice by showrunner K.J. Steinberg, who wanted to ensure that Knox's voice was "celebrated" and "needed" in the telling of her own story. By allowing Knox to confront her prosecutor, the episode offered a unique perspective on the case, one that went beyond the "supposedly objective outside view" that has often defined previous retellings.
