Alliance will host a full day of events on July 4th, commemorating America's 250th birthday. Festivities begin with a Family Flag Walk, featuring a display of 250 American flags and refreshments. In the afternoon, the John Hampu Band will perform at Silver Park starting at 4 p.m., accompanied by food trucks and activities. A unique "living history concert" by the 1926 Alliance City Band is scheduled for 8 p.m. on the Silver Park Sound Stage.
The 1926 Alliance City Band has a rich history in the region, active for decades and performing at various local events. Although the band officially ceased to exist in 1992, its legacy continues. Joseph N. Rubin, a musicologist, will present "Programming the Past: An Alliance City Band Encore" on July 1st at Rodman Public Library, delving into the band's history and director Emil Rinkendorf.
As part of the July 4th celebration, Rubin will also portray Emil Rinkendorf in a special performance of the "living history concert" at Silver Park. This 75-minute free concert, featuring a 26-piece wind band in period uniforms, will precede the evening's fireworks display at dusk. The Alliance City Band Endowment Fund, established around 1970, continues to support needy students in their musical education.
