'For All Mankind': Beatles Reunion Cut for Legal Fears
24 Apr
Summary
- John Lennon survives assassination in alternate timeline.
- Beatles reunion tour was considered for Season 2.
- Legal concerns led to the removal of the Beatles reunion.

The alternate history series 'For All Mankind' presents a universe where John Lennon survived his 1980 assassination attempt. Each season's opening montage highlights major historical events of the decade, including presidential elections and celebrity deaths.
Season 2 of the Apple TV+ show nearly featured a more extensive Beatles-related Easter egg. Co-creator Ronald D. Moore explained in a 2021 interview that an initial plan involved a full Beatles reunion tour following their 1970 breakup. However, Moore ultimately decided against this, fearing it would raise too many legal flags and lead to calls from lawyers.
Moore's decision to change the plan meant that only John Lennon's continued existence was depicted, rather than a full band reunion. This adjusted storyline allowed the series to maintain its creative direction while mitigating potential legal entanglements with the iconic band's representation.
