Alice McDermott is set to release her new novel, Herself, Of Course, on February 2, 2027. This literary work centers on Victoria Gannon, a character consumed by an obsession with the written word.
Set in 1980s New York, the narrative unfolds across three acts, charting Gannon's path toward artistry. Her journey involves navigating love affairs, professional setbacks, and significant life events.
A key element of the novel's creation stems from McDermott's personal challenge to write in genres she previously avoided, such as novels about novelists.
This endeavor follows her acclaimed 2023 novel, Absolution. McDermott teases future projects, including a science fiction novel.
The cover art, designed by Alex Merto, reflects the novel's themes of writing, revision, and reclaiming one's narrative.
