Artist Alex Da Corte has unveiled two significant projects this fall, delving into the legacies of Pop Art pioneers Roy Lichtenstein and Marisol. Each exhibition has been six years in the making, showcasing Da Corte's unique approach to modern art and pop culture.
At the Whitney Museum of Art, Da Corte served as a curator for 'Roy Lichtenstein: Like New,' the first major Lichtenstein retrospective in New York in over three decades. He recreated two of Lichtenstein's monumental billboards and a previously unrealized painting.
Launching December 11th at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Da Corte's video installation 'The Party' draws inspiration from Marisol's 1965-66 sculpture of the same name. This work features 15 life-size figures that explore themes of female identity and objectification.
Both exhibitions are set to run through May 10th, offering audiences a contemporary interpretation of influential 1960s New York art.
