Actor Alec Baldwin has disclosed experiencing severe physical and mental health challenges stemming from the 2021 'Rust' tragedy. He shared on the Dopey podcast that the incident "broke every nerve in my body, spiritually, financially, work-wise, career." Baldwin indicated that his health issues have aged him considerably, stating it "taken 10 years off of my life." He described periods where he was incapacitated and required significant rest.
The 'Rust' incident, which resulted in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021, led to Baldwin facing involuntary manslaughter charges. Although initially charged in January 2023, those charges were dropped. He was re-charged in January 2024, but a judge dismissed that case with prejudice in July 2024, preventing refiling.
Baldwin also detailed profound psychological struggles, including post-traumatic stress disorder and suicidal ideation, as revealed on his reality show 'The Baldwins.' He expressed survivor's guilt, wishing the tragedy had befallen him instead of Hutchins. The film 'Rust' was released in May 2025, with a dedication to Hutchins.
