6 Nov
Summary
- Alcon Media Group acquired derivative rights to Warner Bros. films
- Includes titles like The Matrix, Practical Magic, and Mad Max
- Alcon purchased Village Roadshow's library for $417.5 million

In a significant development, Alcon Media Group has secured the derivative rights to a number of iconic Warner Bros.-released films that it acquired from the bankrupt Village Roadshow. This includes the rights to blockbuster titles such as The Matrix, Practical Magic, and Mad Max.
The acquisition of these derivative rights, which grant Alcon the ability to authorize and participate in any sequels or remakes based on the Village Roadshow intellectual property, was finalized in a recent Delaware bankruptcy court ruling. Alcon had purchased the entire Village Roadshow library back in June 2025 for $417.5 million.
"The court's ruling today will allow Alcon to complete its comprehensive purchase of the Village Roadshow assets," stated Alcon CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. "Alcon looks forward to working collaboratively with Warner Bros., as we have for over a quarter-century, to partner in the exploitation of the derivative rights to these many great films across multiple platforms."
