Alanis Morissette has opened up about the significant backlash she encountered at the height of her Jagged Little Pill success. In a recent interview, the singer disclosed that she received considerable hate, with some websites dedicated to plotting her demise.

Morissette recalled artists she admired speaking disparagingly about her, noting the absence of a supportive 'girl squad' during that era. She mentioned therapy helped her navigate these difficult moments.

The 'Ironic' singer also touched upon the perception of her work then versus now. While her lyrics on female rage are now seen as trailblazing, they were not initially well-received by many in the music industry, leading to what she described as jealousy.

Morissette drew a parallel between the industry's reaction to her and current perceptions of artists like Taylor Swift, attributing the scarcity mindset to patriarchal structures. She's noticed a cycle of being loved and hated throughout her public life, a pattern she observes other artists also experiencing.

Currently, Morissette is focused on her forthcoming residency show, Butterfly with a Machete: A Rock Traumedy, scheduled to take place at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles in November.
