Actor Alan Cumming has initiated V&A Dundee's call for treasured objects by donating a flamboyant costume worn while hosting "The Traitors US". The outfit, designed by Siobhan Mackenzie and Sam Spector, features a tartan kilt, a crystal-adorned chest plate with a sgian dubh, and a metallic silk chiffon plaid.
Cumming expressed his love for the design, citing its blend of Scottish tradition, daring, romanticism, camp, and theatricality. He emphasized V&A Dundee's representation of Scottish excellence and the museum's progressive approach to showcasing Scottish identity.
V&A Dundee is inviting the public to submit personal items that evoke Scotland and what it means to be Scottish. These could range from clothing and souvenirs to family keepsakes, aiming to tell diverse stories through collected objects for display in the new Scottish Design Galleries.
The redesigned galleries are slated to open in 2028 and will feature items co-curated by V&A Dundee and a community panel. Individuals wishing to contribute can submit their objects via email to myobject@vandadundee.org until August 31. This initiative is supported by £2.6 million in UK Government funding and private fundraising.
