In October 2025, Bollywood actor Akshay Oberoi revealed that he was deeply saddened when Karan Johar's period drama Takht was shelved. Oberoi had been signed on to play the role of Mughal prince Murad Bakhsh in the film, which was set to feature a star-studded cast including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Vicky Kaushal.
Oberoi shared that he was excited about the opportunity to work with Johar as a director and portray a Mughal character, as he felt he had the right look for the part. However, the film's production was halted due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the industry. Johar also acknowledged the heartbreak of having to shelve the project, stating that he had researched the film for over 2.5 years and had a strong screenplay written by Sumit Roy.
While Oberoi's role in Takht did not materialize, he went on to secure a part in Johar's Dharma Productions film Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, marking his first collaboration with the production house. Oberoi also clarified a recent controversy regarding his comments about his cousin, actor Vivek Oberoi, stating that they had addressed the matter privately and he wished to move on without any further drama.
