Akshay Kumar has confirmed that the much-anticipated biographical war drama 'Gorkha' is no longer moving forward. The actor revealed this during a recent fan interaction, putting an end to years of speculation about the project's fate. The film, originally announced in October 2021, was set to be a collaboration between Aanand L. Rai's Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films.
The 'Gorkha' biopic was planned to be based on the life of Major General Ian Cardozo, a distinguished officer from the 5th Gorkha Rifles. Cardozo played a significant role in several Indian conflicts, including the Indo-Pakistan War of 1971. The film aimed to bring his story to a wider audience.
Filmmaker Aanand L. Rai had previously acknowledged in 2023 that the project was put on hold. He cited technical challenges and the need for factual clarifications as reasons for the delay. While denying reports of Kumar's departure, Rai confirmed the film's stalled status.
With this latest confirmation from Akshay Kumar, the 'Gorkha' project appears to be permanently shelved, concluding a development that had generated considerable interest upon its initial announcement.
