Akai Professional has launched the MPC Sample, a portable and battery-powered standalone sampler inspired by its classic MPC60. This device allows users to capture spontaneous creativity by sampling, chopping, and building beats anywhere, without requiring a host computer or prior musical experience.
The MPC Sample is designed for beatmaking on the go, fitting easily into a backpack and offering up to five hours of use on its rechargeable lithium-ion battery. It includes a built-in speaker and microphone, a 2.4-inch color display for waveform editing, 2GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, and microSD expansion.
Equipped with 16 velocity-sensitive MPC pads with RGB backlighting, three real-time control knobs, and a legacy parameter fader, it provides tactile control. The sampler features an instant Sample Chop Mode, real-time Timestretch, and Repitch adjustment, along with over 100 factory kits and 60 effect types across four engines.
Despite its compact size, the MPC Sample integrates into larger setups via stereo inputs/outputs, MIDI, and USB-C ports. Akai Professional's brand director, Andy Mac, stated it represents a new chapter, making the iconic MPC workflow more accessible than ever to creators of all skill levels. The Akai Professional MPC Sample is available now for $399 / £349 / €399 from authorized dealers and music retailers.
