Court Shields Ajay Devgn from AI, Deepfake Misuse

The Delhi High Court has granted Ajay Devgn significant interim relief concerning his personality rights. The court has issued an order to prevent various parties from using the actor's images, personal characteristics, and likeness without his authorization. This legal protection aims to curb the unauthorized commercial exploitation of Devgn's persona.

The court's directive specifically addresses the misuse of his identity through emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and deepfakes. Furthermore, the order prohibits the creation and distribution of obscene content that exploits his image. This legal action was prompted by allegations that Devgn's likeness was being used for commercial merchandise and inappropriate material without his consent.

While the court granted interim relief, it noted that future plaintiffs must first report objections to social media platforms. The judge clarified that purely reproductive images might not be ordered for removal at the interim stage without a full hearing, but obscene content will be directed to be taken down. This case follows similar recent rulings protecting the personality rights of other prominent figures.
