A new initiative, the WIF India × Google Flow Filmathon, has been launched to explore the synergy between cinema, creativity, and artificial intelligence. Led by Women in Film India and supported by Google, this program invites filmmakers to experiment with AI-assisted tools. Participants will utilize Google Flow, a filmmaking workspace integrating Google's Gemini Omni and Veo models, to develop original ideas and discover innovative visual possibilities.
The Filmathon aims to provide a creative space for filmmakers to take risks and understand how emerging technology can enhance traditional filmmaking while maintaining storytelling's central role. Rabia Chopra of WIF India emphasized that the collaboration provides access to a new creative studio without diminishing the storyteller's control.
Arathi Sethumadhavan from Google highlighted the growing momentum of Google Flow in India. The initiative is set to culminate with the top five films being presented at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa in 2026. This showcase offers a platform for filmmakers to gain broader exposure within the industry and to audiences.
