During a recent episode of America's Got Talent, a performance by Elsie, a 32-year-old singer-songwriter from Mississippi, sparked a notable disagreement among the judges. While Elsie delivered an original song, her audition was met with mixed reactions from the panel.
Howie Mandel expressed uncertainty about Elsie's identity as an artist, citing heavy backing track production and stating, "I didn't like the production. I can't give you a yes. It's a no for me." This stance was met with surprise and boos from the audience.
Conversely, Simon Cowell lauded Elsie's raw talent, remarking, "You have everything it takes to do well. You have star potential." Mel B and Sofia Vergara also voted in favor of Elsie advancing, despite having reservations about her song choice. Elsie ultimately secured three 'yes' votes to proceed.
