Summary
- Rapper Afroman sued a former sheriff's deputy for malicious prosecution.
- The lawsuit claims the deputy's previous defamation case was baseless.
- Afroman seeks damages for emotional distress and legal fees incurred.

Rapper Afroman is pursuing legal action against Brian Newland, a former sergeant with the Adams County Sheriff's Department. Afroman filed a malicious prosecution lawsuit on Monday, alleging that Newland's prior defamation case against him lacked sufficient legal and factual grounds. This new suit claims Newland's actions forced Afroman to incur significant legal fees and caused considerable emotional distress.
The dispute stems from Afroman's use of surveillance footage from a 2022 raid on his Ohio property in music videos and online posts. Deputies, including Newland, had sued Afroman in 2023 over these depictions, seeking $3.9 million for reputational damages. However, earlier this year, a jury found Afroman not liable, determining he did not defame the officers or portray them in a false light. Afroman recently promoted the new lawsuit on Instagram, asserting that Newland took $400 during the raid and later sued for $1.5 million. He also released a new video targeting the former deputy. Newland has not yet responded to requests for comment.
