African writers pitch bold TV series at Series Mania

Four African screenwriters are showcasing their original TV projects at the 17th Series Mania in Lille, France. They are participants in the AuthenticA Series Lab, an episodic screenwriting program fostering global television series from African creators.
Pitching on March 24th are Reem Morsi (Egypt/Canada) with "Humanitarians!"; Gamel Apalayine (Ghana) with "The Gospel According to Charlotte Nelson"; Mona Ombogo (Kenya) with "Kanaan"; and Joladé Olusanya (Nigeria/U.K.) with "Kid: The Hogan Bassey Story."
The AuthenticA Series Lab, now in its fourth edition, provides six months of intensive development, mentorship, and resources. This program aims to equip African writers with the skills and connections needed to succeed in the international market, encouraging them to tell audacious and complex stories.
Creative producer Mehret Mandefro highlighted the importance of providing a safe space for African writers to develop their unique narratives. Selina Ukwuoma, a script consultant, added that the lab empowers writers to push boundaries and redefine the narrative about Africa through groundbreaking storytelling.
