Oscar Winners Del Toro, Sorkin Honored by AFI

The American Film Institute (AFI) will honor Oscar-winning talents Guillermo del Toro and Aaron Sorkin with honorary doctor of fine arts degrees. The commencement ceremony for the AFI Conservatory's graduating class of 2026 is scheduled for August 7 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. AFI president and CEO Bob Gazzale lauded del Toro and Sorkin as "peerless, prolific creative forces" whose work inspires audiences globally.

Del Toro, known for films like 'Pan's Labyrinth' and 'The Shape of Water,' most recently released his 'Frankenstein' adaptation on Netflix. Sorkin, an acclaimed screenwriter and director, is anticipating the October 9 release of his new film, 'The Social Reckoning.' His extensive career includes celebrated works such as 'The West Wing' and 'The Social Network.' Both filmmakers' achievements will inspire the class of 2026.
