Affleck & Damon's Studio Fuels New Screenwriters

Artists Equity, the independent studio co-founded by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, has initiated its fourth Writers' Room program. This intensive 12-week initiative will see eight selected writers develop original screenplays for the studio's upcoming projects. Oscar-winning screenwriters Affleck, Damon, and Eric Roth will provide direct mentorship and feedback.

The program's structure allows writers to pitch ideas across various genres. Successful concepts will form the basis for dedicated writing rooms. Amy Baer, president of film and television at Artists Equity, highlighted the program's effectiveness in its creative development process.

Past Writers' Room iterations have already yielded several active film packages. Notably, the erotic thriller Sirocco, written by Gideon Raff and set to be directed by Amy Seimetz with Steven Soderbergh as executive producer, emerged from this program. Artists Equity's upcoming crime thriller Animals, directed by Affleck, is slated for release on Netflix.

Other forthcoming films include Free Byrd, written and directed by Greg Kwedar starring Dwayne Johnson. Their recent release, The Rip, starring Affleck and Damon, achieved significant viewership on Netflix and pioneered a unique performance bonus for its cast and crew based on viewer numbers.

Established in 2022 with backing from RedBird Capital Partners, Artists Equity's filmography also includes titles such as The Accountant 2 and Air.
