Announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, a new "Adventure Time" spin-off titled "Adventure Time: Bubblegum and Marceline" has received a 10-episode order from HBO Max. The series will be executive produced by Adam Muto, a veteran of the "Adventure Time" franchise, and produced in partnership with Cartoon Network Studios. This follows the success of previous Max Originals like "Adventure Time: Distant Lands" and "Adventure Time: Fionna and Cake."
The new series is described as following Princess Bubblegum and Marceline the Vampire Queen as they journey through Ooo, encountering new dangers and familiar faces. This narrative approach aligns with the multi-episode format of "Fionna & Cake" rather than standalone episodes. The characters of Bubblegum and Marceline, long-time fan favorites with confirmed queer identities since the 2018 Season 10 finale, are finally taking center stage.
