Animation's appeal has always extended beyond children, with adults enjoying the art form alongside younger viewers since the early days of iconic characters. However, as major studios largely steered animation towards a family-friendly image, a counter-movement began.
Creators seeking to subvert and reclaim the medium specifically for adults sparked the emergence of a dedicated animation subgenre. This evolution has led to numerous adult-oriented animated series becoming staples on television and streaming platforms.
The landscape of adult animation is now vast, encompassing a wide spectrum of genres. From sharp comedies to intense, ultraviolent action shows, this subgenre offers diverse content for mature audiences.
