A'Zion, star of "Marty Supreme," has shared details of a mortifying audition for the lead role of Ariel in Disney's live-action "The Little Mermaid." During her tryout, A'Zion became so nervous that she forgot the lyrics to the signature song 'Part of Your World.' She also found it challenging to sing the song in her natural voice after practicing it in Ariel's distinct princess tone. The audition did not result in a callback for A'Zion.
Director Rob Marshall announced in July 2019 that Halle Bailey had secured the role of Ariel after an extensive search. Bailey was praised for her unique combination of spirit, heart, innocence, and vocal talent, which were deemed essential for the iconic character. Production was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The Little Mermaid" was released in theaters in May 2023, achieving significant success with a global box office collection of $560 million. Halle Bailey's performance as Ariel was widely celebrated, earning her widespread acclaim. Critics highlighted her breathtaking portrayal and noted how her rendition of 'Part of Your World' transformed the classic tune into something magical and otherworldly.
