Actor Transforms into Quirky College Football Hopeful to Resurrect Dreams

In the new Hulu comedy series, actor Glen Powell stars as Russ Holliday, a former star quarterback who is "trying to resurrect his dreams by disguising himself as Chad Powers -- a talented oddball who walks onto the struggling South Georgia Catfish" eight years after a catastrophic mistake cost his college football career.

To take on this unconventional role, Powell had to undergo a significant physical transformation. He wore a shaggy wig, a mustache, and various facial prosthetics and enhancements to embody the character of Chad Powers. Powell admits that not being able to drink alcohol while wearing the mask was actually helpful for his diet, as "the face will fall off" if he consumed alcohol.

Despite the challenges of the prosthetics, especially in the Atlanta heat, Powell shares that it was a joy to play the role inspired by a 2002 Eli's Places video starring former NFL quarterback Eli Manning. Powell says he's always enjoyed "playing pretend" and getting to be "goofy with your friends" on set.
