Actor Satendra Soni, recognized for his role in 'Laapataa Ladies,' has lodged a Zero FIR against filmmaker Pushpendra Singh and his wife, actor Pragati Chauhan. Soni alleges non-payment of dues, assault, intimidation, and wrongful confinement during the shooting of their film, 'Paid Paalki,' which occurred in Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, in June. He further claims he faced harassment due to his dwarfism and appearance, causing significant mental, physical, and financial distress.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has announced full support for Soni and actor Shreedhar Dubey. AICWA stated that an FIR was registered on August 20, 2026, at Oshiwara Police Station in Mumbai. The association highlighted the seriousness of the allegations, noting Soni's established career and questioning the vulnerability of lesser-known actors.
Soni's complaint details alleged poor working conditions, including inadequate sanitation and stale food. He claims he was subjected to ridicule and non-consensual photographs due to his dwarfism. When he raised concerns, he was allegedly abused by Pragati Chauhan and threatened by Pushpendra Singh. The filmmakers also allegedly threatened to implicate them in false cases and commit suicide.
AICWA facilitated a meeting with the Maharashtra State Home Minister, who directed an investigation. With police protection, Soni and Dubey returned to Mumbai to file the FIR. The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations are yet to be adjudicated. Soni has also worked on projects like 'Doctor G' and the upcoming 'Mirzapur.'
