A widow, Hannah Colby, has commemorated her late husband Steve Gilmour's 50th birthday by releasing a book of his creative Action Man photographs. Gilmour, a graphic designer from Norwich, passed away at 45 in May 2022 following a diagnosis of a rare grade four gliosarcoma brain tumor less than a year prior. The book, titled "Lights, Camera, Action Man," features 130 images of the classic toy in imaginative scenarios.
The book's launch coincided with an official Action Man convention held in North Weald Village Hall, Essex, which also marked 60 years of the popular toy. Gilmour had developed his photographic hobby during the pandemic and after being made redundant, sharing his work online. Following his death, Colby established a fundraising group named Band Together to support Brain Tumour Research, a cause close to her heart.
Money generated from the sale of "Lights, Camera, Action Man" will directly contribute to Brain Tumour Research. Colby stated her determination to support research efforts to offer others a chance at life. Friends and collectors, including Rob Wisdom, collaborated to preserve Gilmour's unique creative legacy through this tribute, emphasizing that his story continues through his work.
