The Cannes Film Festival's ACID sidebar has revealed its 2026 selection, comprising nine 'adventurous' and 'bold' films from emerging filmmakers. General delegate Pauline Ginot highlighted that the program champions independent cinema and aims to support the careers of new directing talents.
More than 600 films were submitted for the coveted nine spots. ACID, which has a history of premiering early works by notable directors like Justine Triet and Kaouther Ben Hania, emphasizes its role in providing international exposure for filmmakers.
This year's lineup includes diverse themes and comes from countries such as Iran, Switzerland, and France. Notable selections include 'A Secret Heart,' a documentary about a trans woman, and 'Blaise,' an animated film mocking the bourgeoisie. 'Dans La Gueule De L'ogre' explores exile and the hardship of relationships, while 'Detention' indirectly addresses the French prison system by focusing on the training of prison staff.
Other films include 'Living Twice, Dying Thrice,' an adventure set across Iran's social strata, and 'Promised Spaces,' a fictional documentary style film about Cambodia's rapid development. 'Rewind Barcelona' delves into how memories are shaped by mundane moments, and 'Summer Drift' features a memorable character confronting the world of mechanics.
