AC/DC Rocks Melbourne After Decade-Long Hiatus, Omits Iconic Tune
13 Nov
Summary
- AC/DC kicks off first Australian tour in over 10 years
- Legendary song "It's A Long Way To The Top" not played live
- 374 bagpipers set world record at Melbourne concert
On November 13, 2025, legendary rock band AC/DC kicked off their first Australian tour in over 10 years, performing to a packed crowd at Melbourne's MCG. The band delivered a set filled with classics from their expansive catalogue, but one iconic tune was noticeably absent - "It's A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)".
The decision to omit the song was not an oversight, but rather a deliberate choice by the band. Following the death of their original frontman Bon Scott in 1980, AC/DC's replacement singer Brian Johnson vowed never to perform the song live, as it had become synonymous with the late Bon Scott.
While fans inside the stadium missed out on the legendary bagpipe riff, a different story was unfolding outside. An impressive 374 pipers descended on Melbourne's Fed Square, breaking the record for the world's largest bagpipe ensemble by playing along to the classic AC/DC track.

Despite the absence of their signature song, the band's performance was still a hit, with founding guitarist Angus Young, 70, commanding the stage with his iconic schoolboy strut. Frontman Brian Johnson, 78, also captivated the crowd, belting out a string of AC/DC's greatest hits.
