Accordion Band Aims for National Recognition

A vibrant 38-member accordion band, which began with just five individuals, is now a contender for a prestigious music charity award. Founded by someone who started learning the accordion at age nine, inspired by her family's Serbian roots where the instrument is paramount, the group has flourished.

What started as a passion project teaching others from a kitchen has evolved into a significant musical collective. This ensemble is more than just musicians; members describe it as an extended family that supports one another.

The band has not only grown in numbers but also in its charitable impact, raising tens of thousands of pounds for various causes through their dedicated fundraising concerts. As musical director, the founder leads them with a clear mission: to raise the profile of the accordion nationally.

Winners will be announced at the Royal Philharmonic Society's annual awards ceremony on March 12th at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. Voting for the RPS Inspiration Award is open until 11 am on Monday, February 2nd.
