Emotional Detective Story "A Son" Premieres at Cairo Film Festival

The Spanish drama "A Son" is poised to make its world premiere at the Cairo Film Festival on November 15, 2025. The film is an adaptation of the acclaimed novel "Un Hijo" by Barcelona writer Alejandro Palomas, which has been translated into over 20 languages and won Spain's National Prize for Children's and Young Adult's Literature.

Directed by Nacho la Casa, "A Son" marks the live-action feature debut of the respected writer-producer-director, who is best known for his work on animated films like "Ozzy" and "Norbert." The story follows María, an inexperienced school psychologist, as she begins to suspect that something is very wrong with Guille, an 8-year-old student who seems suspiciously happy, hiding a potentially dramatic situation.

Determined to uncover the truth, María sets out to decipher Guille's drawings and overcome his father's resistance to any investigation. "A Son" explores the fragile bond between the child and the only adult who dares to listen to him, challenging viewers as both children and grown-ups.

The film stars Macarena García and Hugo Silva, who have both garnered critical acclaim for their previous work. "A Son" is produced by Capitán Araña and Guion Alto, La Casa's production companies, and has received backing from Spanish broadcasters and regional governments.
