Acclaimed Opera 'Last Days' Adapted for the Big Screen

In October 2025, it was announced that the acclaimed English-language opera 'Last Days' is being adapted for the big screen. The film adaptation is being directed by artist and filmmaker Matt Copson, who co-created the original opera with Oliver Leith.

Inspired by Gus Van Sant's 2005 film of the same name, the new cinematic version of 'Last Days' is currently in production in Spain. The film is financed by Mubi, Spain's AF Films, and LUMA, with additional support from Nina Pictures and Artemis Rising Foundation.

Agathe Rousselle, who starred in the original opera production, has been signed on to lead the film. The story follows the final period in the life of a successful but reclusive musician, Blake, played by Rousselle. As the turmoil around him reaches its peak, the ghostly figure of a magician appears, offering him a way out.

The film features a score by Oliver Leith, original to the opera, and includes an aria sung by Caroline Polachek. Acclaimed cinematographer Claire Mathon and sound designer Nicolas Becker are also part of the production team.
