In a move that highlights the growing influence of independent distributors, upstart New York company 1-2 Special has acquired the North American rights to Mark Jenkin's latest film, 'Rose of Nevada'. The eerie drama, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year, stars George MacKay and Callum Turner as fishermen in a remote Cornish village who become entangled in a mysterious time loop after boarding a strange ship that appears off their coast.
Jenkin, the acclaimed British filmmaker behind the critically praised 'Bait' and 'Enys Men', wrote, directed, shot, and edited 'Rose of Nevada' using his signature 16mm Bolex camera and post-production sound design. The film, which had its North American debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, is the latest addition to 1-2 Special's fast-growing slate of independent releases.
Launched earlier this year by former Sideshow executive Jason Hellerstein, 1-2 Special is one of a new wave of theatrical-first distributors looking to carve out a space in the domestic market. With backing from a group of private investors led by Alex Lo's Cinema Inutile, the company is positioning itself as a champion of bold, innovative filmmaking.
