Acclaimed Czech Photographer's Intimate Journey Captured on Film

In October 2025, Klára Tasovská's documentary film, made entirely from photographs by acclaimed Czech artist Libuše Jarcovjáková, has been making waves on the international film festival circuit. The film, titled "I'm Not Everything I Want To Be," won two prestigious awards at the Czech Lions (the Czech Republic's equivalent of the Academy Awards) last month, including Best Documentary and Best Editing.

Jarcovjáková, who began her career in Czechoslovakia's Communist era, is known for her focus on minorities and marginalized groups, including the LGBTQ community. Through a dynamic montage of her still images, layered sound design, contemporary music, and her own voice drawn from diaries, the film delivers what has been described as a "wild, intimate, and deeply political cinematic experience."

The film has also won major prizes at the Torino Film Festival in Italy and the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma in Montréal, among other awards. It has been selected by the Czech Republic as its official entry for the Oscar category of Best International Film, and Grasshopper Film, the distributor, is also submitting the documentary for Best Documentary Feature. The film is set to be released theatrically in New York and Los Angeles next month.
