In a major move, acclaimed writer and producer Kelvin Yu has signed a multi-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. As of November 6th, 2025, Yu will be developing and producing scripted comedy, drama, and animated series for the independent studio.
Yu is renowned for his work on the hit Fox animated series "Bob's Burgers," having shared in the show's win for best animated program at the 2017 Emmy Awards. He has also been part of the show's producing team that has received seven nominations in the category in total. Additionally, Yu created the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese," on which he served as showrunner, and has worked on the Apple TV+ series "Central Park."
"I've had the privilege of working with Kelvin, and I couldn't be more excited to have him join our Sony family," said Katherine Pope, president of Sony Pictures Television Studios. "He is revered for his narrative genius, and he brings remarkable range in every position, every medium, in front of and behind the camera across drama, comedy and animation."
Yu expressed his excitement about the new partnership, stating, "I am so excited and honestly really flattered to be joining the Sony family. They're making bold, boundary-pushing TV, and I just feel incredibly lucky I get to be a part of that."
