In November 2025, the estate of legendary songwriter Guy Clark announced plans to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his seminal debut album "Old No. 1" with a star-studded tribute project. The upcoming album, titled "Old No. 1 Revisited", will feature a diverse lineup of acclaimed young artists putting their own spin on Clark's influential songs.
The initial list of contributors includes Margo Price, Sarah Jarosz, Erin Rae, Brennen Leigh, Rodney Crowell, Andrew Combs, and Caroline Randall Williams, with more artists expected to join the project in the coming months. The lead single is a tender rendition of "Desperadoes Waiting for a Train" by Combs, featuring a duet with Clark's longtime friend and collaborator Crowell.
"If you were to tell 18-year-old me that one day I'd be recording a Guy Clark song with Rodney Crowell, I'd have lost my damn mind," Combs remarked. "To this day, whenever I sit down to write, I think about [Guy]." The album-length tribute is still in the works and is expected to be released in early 2026, nearly a decade after Clark's passing in Nashville.
In addition to the tribute album, the estate has planned several other projects to commemorate the 50th anniversary of "Old No. 1", including an "Old No. 1 at 50" touring show and the release of a book chronicling the history of Clark's debut album.
