Abraham Quintanilla Jr., the patriarch who guided the career of his daughter, Tejano music icon Selena, has passed away at 86. He passed away on Saturday, as announced by his son, A.B. Quintanilla III. Quintanilla was a pivotal figure in Latin music, forming the family band Selena y Los Dinos and navigating the industry to launch Selena's crossover success.
Following Selena's tragic murder in 1995, Abraham Quintanilla became the steadfast guardian of her artistic and cultural legacy. He was an executive producer on the 1997 film "Selena" and remained involved in numerous tribute projects. He also established the Selena Foundation to aid children in crisis.
Through his record company, Q-Productions, Quintanilla continued to support emerging artists in music and film. He also released his memoir, "A Father's Dream: My Family's Journey in Music," in 2021. Quintanilla was recognized as a central architect of Selena's career and an unyielding advocate for her memory.
