The United States of Asian+America, a new YouTube series, has launched to spotlight Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) visionaries. Co-created by The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) and Wong Fu Productions, the series seeks to increase awareness of the significant, yet often overlooked, contributions of AAPIs to American history and culture.
Despite AAPI communities playing a pivotal role in shaping modern life, a 2024 TAAF survey revealed that over half of Americans could not name a single famous Asian American. The series addresses this by featuring interviews with pioneers like Yahoo! co-founder Jerry Yang and USB inventor Ajay Bhatt.
The series premiered on June 24th with a conversation between YouTube co-founder Steve Chen and Philip Wang. Future episodes will feature innovators, artists, and community leaders, interviewed by fellow AAPIs whose work extends their legacy. TAAF is also launching an initiative to encourage creatives to tell overlooked AAPI stories nationwide, with awards up to $10,000 available.
