The 17th London Indian Film Festival is set to run from July 9 to July 19 across five cities. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will attend BFI Southbank on July 16 for a closing gala conversation. This appearance is timed with a special 25th anniversary screening of his Academy Award-nominated film, 'Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India,' at BFI Imax on July 12.
The festival opens with the European premiere of '52 Blue' at BFI Southbank on July 9. Other highlights include a reunion of the cast of the 1990s BBC sketch comedy 'Goodness Gracious Me' on July 11. A new 4K restoration of the cult 1989 film 'In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones,' written by Arundhati Roy and featuring a young Shah Rukh Khan, will have its U.K. premiere.
Additionally, the festival presents U.K. premieres of diverse films, including Bangladeshi productions. A significant event is 'India's AI & Film Future,' Europe's first showcase of Indian films utilizing AI in their creation, taking place at BFI Southbank on July 11 and later in Manchester. Various curated shorts programs and competitions are also featured, along with Northern and Midlands premieres of Peter Brook's 'The Mahabharata.'
