Steve Read, a photographer who spent the 1990s documenting global celebrities, has opened an exhibition of his work in Tunbridge Wells. The exhibition, titled 'Shooting Stars Pays the Rent', is being held at The Claremont pub and features images captured during what Read describes as a 'golden era' for celebrity and magazines.
During the 1990s, Read worked for prominent magazines and photographed a wide array of stars, including JK Rowling, Eminem, Sharon Osbourne, and Lennox Lewis, often in Los Angeles. He recalled persuading celebrities to participate in unconventional shoots, such as convincing Vinnie Jones to pose waist-deep in a pool wearing an expensive suit, creating what has become an iconic photograph.
Among the memorable personalities captured by Read are Sharon Osbourne during the filming of 'The Osbournes' and a young Eminem. Read identified boxer Lennox Lewis as the nicest celebrity he had the pleasure of working with. The exhibition is running until August 30th.
