Riot's Fighting Game 2XKO Ceases Development
20 Aug
Summary
- Active development for 2XKO will end in December, with no path to sustainability.
- Servers will remain online past 2026, but active development concludes.
- Riot is refunding purchases and unlocking most gameplay content.

Riot Games has announced the end of active development for its fighting game, 2XKO, citing an insufficient number of active players to ensure its long-term sustainability. The decision, officially communicated on August 20, means development will cease in December. Despite this, the game's servers are expected to remain online beyond 2026, with offline play unaffected.
The development team plans to release new content, including two champions, Lux and Samira, and a final bug fix patch in December. Ahead of the development halt, Riot will disable KO Points purchases, refund all purchases made before August 20, and offer a cosmetic content bundle. Most gameplay content, including all champions, will be unlocked.
Systems like Battle Passes and KO Points are being removed, and ranked lobbies will be disabled to focus on a streamlined casual experience. The 2XKO Competitive Series will persist through the end of 2026, with Riot supporting events and prizing until then. After 2026, community organizers can continue hosting events under Riot's guidelines.
Riot explained that while dedicated tag fighter players enjoyed 2XKO, most other fighting game players did not find sustained reasons to continue playing. After exploring various options, including workforce adjustments, ending active development was deemed the best path forward. The fighting game community has expressed disappointment and criticism regarding Riot's decision.
