The Stockton and Darlington Railway (S&DR) is celebrating its 200th anniversary with an exhibition titled "The Hope Brigade." This exhibition showcases 26 images and accompanying messages from inspirational women and non-binary individuals across the north-east of England, symbolizing the 26 miles of the S&DR line.
The project, a collaboration with Women of the World (WOW), aims to honor those making significant contributions to their local communities and beyond. The exhibition is a key part of a year-long festival exploring the societal transformations brought about by railways, focusing on community, pioneers, and unsung heroes.
Currently on view at the Locomotion museum in Shildon until March 24, 2026, the exhibition will subsequently tour to Newcastle. A version is also being displayed in Durham City Centre before moving to Middlesbrough Station. Among the honored individuals is Sarah Price, Head of Locomotion, who was photographed with the historic locomotive "Locomotion No 1."
