A series of winter storms is expected to impact several northern U.S. states this week, threatening to create hazardous conditions for Thanksgiving travelers. Winter storm watches have been issued by the National Weather Service for Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Michigan, and New York.
Forecasters anticipate significant snowfall, with Michigan's Upper Peninsula possibly receiving over 12 inches of snow accompanied by winds up to 45 mph. Northern Wisconsin could see 6 to 12 inches of lake-effect snow. Travel in these regions is predicted to be extremely difficult to impossible due to reduced visibility and hazardous road conditions.
Across Minnesota, up to 9 inches of snow is possible, while parts of North Dakota may see at least 4 inches. Western and upstate New York could experience over 7 inches of lake-effect snow with whiteout conditions. The National Weather Service advises delaying travel if possible and exercising extreme caution.
