23 Mar
Summary
- Record high temperatures impact some U.S. regions while others face heavy snow.
- Up to 10 inches of snow and strong winds are forecast for parts of the Northeast.
- Travel advisories issued due to dangerous conditions from snow and ice accumulations.

The United States is currently experiencing a stark contrast in weather conditions. While some regions grapple with unseasonably high temperatures reaching up to 108 degrees Fahrenheit, others are preparing for severe winter weather. A significant snowstorm is forecast to impact states including Maine, New Hampshire, and New York from Sunday into early next week.
Heavy snow accumulations of up to 10 inches, coupled with strong winds and potential ice, are expected to create hazardous travel conditions. The National Weather Service has issued warnings, advising residents in affected areas, particularly in the Northeast and mountainous regions like the Big Island Summits in Hawaii, to postpone travel plans until conditions improve. Specific regions in Maine, New Hampshire, and New York are anticipating between 2 to 8 inches of snow and significant icing, impacting commutes and daily activities.
Further north, Alaska is also expected to receive substantial snowfall. Haines, Gustavus, and other communities in Southeast Alaska could see up to 5 inches of snow and reduced visibility, while Prince of Wales Island and surrounding areas may experience 2 to 5 inches of snow with 35 mph winds. These widespread winter advisories underscore the immediate threat to travel and safety across multiple U.S. states.
