UP Shivers: Cold Snap Grips State, Fog Blinds Cities
1 Feb
Summary
- Kanpur recorded the lowest day temperature in Uttar Pradesh.
- Dense fog significantly reduced visibility across multiple cities.
- Rainfall is anticipated from February 1 to 3, bringing warmer temperatures.

Uttar Pradesh is currently grappling with a significant cold snap, marked by a sharp drop in day temperatures across the state. Kanpur registered the lowest day temperature, while Lucknow experienced a brief drizzle. Dense to very dense fog has enveloped many regions, severely impacting visibility, with some airports reporting zero visibility. This weather phenomenon is attributed to the influx of cold, dry northwesterly winds following a recent Western disturbance.
Looking forward, Uttar Pradesh is expected to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers from February 1 to 3. This precipitation is influenced by a Western Disturbance and is predicted to cause a 2 to 4°C rise in temperatures, subsequently reducing fog. Following this, a slight temperature dip is anticipated from February 4 onwards. The forecast for February suggests monthly average minimum temperatures will be higher than normal with fewer cold wave days.
