UK Weather Alert: Flooding and 'Danger to Life' Warnings Issued
19 Jan
Summary
- Yellow rain warning issued for multiple UK regions this week.
- Homes and businesses face flooding, power cuts, and transport disruption.
- Risk of 'danger to life' due to deep floodwater and cut-off communities.

The UK is set to experience persistent and heavy rainfall throughout the week, prompting a yellow rain warning from the Met Office. Multiple regions, particularly in Scotland including Central, Tayside, Fife, Grampian, and Highlands, will be subjected to downpours from Wednesday noon until Friday noon.
This severe weather poses substantial risks, including widespread flooding that could damage homes and businesses. Deep floodwater may present a 'danger to life', and communities could become isolated as roads become impassable. Power and other essential services are also at risk of disruption in the worst-affected areas.
Forecasters predict rainfall accumulations of 30-60 mm widely inland, with up to 120 mm possible over higher ground. Coastal areas will see less rain but face hazards from strong winds and large waves. Snow is also anticipated on higher ground later in the week, adding complexity to river flood predictions.
