UK Braces for 90mm Rain as Spanish Plume Arrives

A 'Spanish plume' meteorological system is predicted to bring widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain to the UK next week. Weather models indicate that some regions could experience up to 90mm of rain between now and Friday. This rainfall could provide much-needed relief following recent dry spells and drought declarations in parts of England and Wales. The forecast specifically highlights eastern England, North Wales, the north-west, the Midlands, and parts of the south-east as potential recipients of significant downpours. In total, data suggests approximately 20 counties, all located within England and Wales, may receive 40mm of rain by Friday. These include Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Sussex, Oxfordshire, Bedfordshire, Flintshire, Denbighshire, and Caernarfonshire. The 'Spanish plume' phenomenon occurs when warm air from Spain rises and cools, forming thunder clouds, further enhanced by cooler air moving in from the west. Temperatures are expected to reach highs of 25C in the south on Monday, climbing to 26C on Tuesday and 28C on Wednesday, before cooling towards the weekend.
