Arctic Blast Brings Snow to UK This Week!
12 May
Summary
- Snow and frost are forecast for parts of the UK due to an Arctic blast.
- Scotland and northern England are most likely to experience snow flurries.
- Temperatures are expected to be near freezing in Scotland on Wednesday morning.

Following a warm start to May, the UK is now experiencing a significant shift with an Arctic blast bringing much colder conditions. Low pressure systems are drawing in Arctic air, leading to forecasts of snow and frost across various parts of the country. Scotland, particularly the Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Perth and Kinross, and Stirling, is likely to be covered in snow. In England, northern and western Yorkshire areas may see blizzards, with lighter snow possible in parts of Greater Manchester and Cheshire. Many southern areas, however, are predicted to receive heavy rain, with Blackpool, Preston, and Blackburn anticipating significant rainfall. Temperatures are expected to drop sharply, with lows near freezing in Scotland and around 3C in England on Wednesday morning. The Met Office has forecast "wintriness" with a mix of sunshine and showers, including hail and thunder, especially over the Scottish mountains, accompanied by brisk, chilly northwesterly winds. Forecasters noted that air originating from around the Arctic Circle will cause daytime temperatures to be much colder than normal, ranging from 9-14 Celsius (48-57F) in many areas for the latter half of the week.
