UK Braces for Snow Amidst Spring Warmth
20 Mar
Summary
- UK could see snow this weekend despite warmer temperatures.
- Southern Europe forecast to be cooler than parts of UK.
- Wintry showers expected, with snow possible at lower levels.

Parts of the UK are anticipating snow this weekend, a phenomenon Met Office forecasters note is not unusual for March. This comes despite Saturday offering sunny conditions and temperatures climbing into the mid-to-high teens across various cities, with Manchester and Edinburgh potentially reaching 16C and 15C respectively. Southern European cities like Athens and Madrid are forecast to experience cooler temperatures and cloudier skies.
However, by Sunday, a change is expected as a band of cloud and patchy rain moves southeast, bringing sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which could be wintry. As the week progresses, a cooler north-westerly flow will bring more unsettled weather. This includes potential hill snow in the north and brisk winds.
Early next week will see a mobile Atlantic pattern, with rain and snow over Scottish mountains. By Wednesday, frequent, heavy, and wintry showers are predicted, possibly reaching lower levels in the north. While higher pressure may build late in the week, temperatures are expected to remain cooler than average, with a possibility of overnight frost.
