After experiencing the hottest day of the year and prolonged dry spells, large parts of England and Wales are officially in drought. Recent temperatures soared, with 38.1C recorded in London. However, the dry conditions are expected to ease for some.
Met Office weather maps show a significant shift with 21 areas predicted to receive heavy rain on Monday. These downpours are primarily forecasted for northern England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, with maps turning blue and yellow to signify the approaching rain.
The heaviest rain is anticipated to begin around 2 pm, particularly affecting Northern Ireland, Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire, and Cumbria in North West England. By the evening, the rain band is forecast to move east and southeast.
Scotland, especially the Scottish Borders and the Highlands, is expected to see intensified rainfall covering almost the entire country. Northern England, including Cumbria, the Lake District, Lancashire, and Cheshire, will also experience heavy showers. In contrast, Wales and southern England are predicted to remain dry and feel very warm and humid.
