UK Weather Shock: From Snow to 15°C This Week!
18 Feb
Summary
- Southern England faces heavy rain, with up to 50mm possible in Dartmoor.
- Snow and strong winds are forecast for the West Midlands and Wales.
- Temperatures could reach the low-to-mid teens by the weekend.

Forecasters have issued warnings for potential flooding and travel chaos across parts of the UK as downpours and snow are expected on Wednesday. Southern England is particularly vulnerable, with a yellow weather warning for heavy rain in effect from early Wednesday to early Thursday. Anticipated rainfall ranges from 10-20mm widely, with coastal areas possibly seeing up to 30mm and Dartmoor up to 50mm.
A separate yellow warning for snow, accompanied by strong winds, is in place for the West Midlands and Wales from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday morning. This combination could lead to cancelled flights and train services, as well as stranded vehicles. Northern Ireland is also under a yellow warning for rain, hill snow, and strong gusts up to 55mph.
Despite the severe conditions predicted for Wednesday, a significant change is on the horizon. Senior meteorologist Craig Snell indicated that winds should dissipate by late Thursday, with a gradual improvement throughout the day. The weekend promises much milder weather, with temperatures expected to reach the low-to-mid teens, potentially accompanied by sunshine, signalling a welcome uplift from the prevailing unsettled conditions.
